Sound curves I like

Hey.. why do homework when you can make lists^^

Ooh I had so many I wanted to include in this one... Built to Spill, Röyksopp, Rush, Foo
Fighters, Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Daft Punk, Cake, Aphex Twin, Strapping young lad, Extol, Jesu, Gordian Knot, Miles Davis, Agitation Free, Hidria Spacefolk, David & The Citizens, Porcupine Tree, Anekdoten and sooo many others that have made awesome albums (so I choosed to only have one album from each artist on the list) :( At least this is a list with 20 awesome albums >_> took four hours to complete XD As always this isn't written in stone, it always depends on the mood and my recent experiences but well enjoy:

1.

Opeth - Still Life
Dream theater was one of my first love affairs with Progressive metal. But this band took it one step further. In fact they take everything one step further. Opeth may be one of the most unique bands in history. The music is so perfect, it's so skilled, it's really moody and arousing. The mix between extremely aggressive and soft parts is perfect. Deliverance may be their single best piece, but this album is in it's whole better. But I wouldn't give any of their work less than 9/10. I'm totaly in love with Opeth ^^

2.

King Crimson - Red
Okey.. this band is concentrated win and god. Only beaten by Opeth in awesomeness, they
mow down every other opponents. The band that really got me in to prog related stuff. To
choose from their catalog was hard.. I love almost every album by them,, but this one got a triumph..

Ice blue silver sky
Fades into grey
To a grey hope that oh years to be
Starless and bible black

Bill Bruford and Robert Fripp are my house gods.

3.

Yes - Close to the Edge
Whenever I listen to progressive rock I either compare it with Yes or King Crimson. They are both outstanding in their genre. KC is more jazzy and Yes more symphonic and this is their magnum opus. The three tracks are so perfect my head gets all this just thinking about it, if you want to have one symphonic progressive rock album.. this is it! And then of course you want to
have fragile, yes album and tales from topographic oceans too ^^

4.

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Sometimes you feel that you should quit your music career. All the good music is already made. Listening to Genesis makes me feel like that. They are on a totally different level. Born with alien minds, this isn't something that a human can come up with.. it's something else. It's progressive rock when it still was good without the other crap. God I wish I lived in the 70's :(

5.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
From where it all began, they spawned the stoner genre and have left their touch on almost every rock/metal piece ever created. Amazing huh! But they really have made mind blowing albums.. extremely hard to choose, but this one is my personal favorite,, and that's what counts huh :)

6.

Kyuss - Welcome To Sky Valley
I found stoner through QOTSA, and I still love that band. But the best stoner album ever made was created some years before. Josh Homme is simply amazing, if I could choose to be like one person in the whole wide world he would be the one. The grooves and the raw power from the Californian desert and sun forged this sludgy masterpiece.

7.

Mars Volta - De-loused in the Comatorium
Neo-prog, psychedelic, experimental, latin mishmash. Wow these guys have everything, I
was so chocked when I first found Mars Volta (browsing through DC-hubs ;p) that I didn't
really now what to do. One of the best newer band out there today! The weird soundscapes
that comes out of this album is truly unique and may be some of the greatest pieces every
created.. stunning.

8.

Metallica - Master of Puppets
My first real metal piece. I think I've listened to it a 100 times, the least, oh lord I
played this record almost everyday for about a year, it was mezmerising. Also my first
contact with thrash, and yes I do love anthrax, Slayer, Exodus and Megadeth.. but this
always beats em. Everything, every time. The whole album is like having a really nice and
long dinner, you now there are so many amazing parts lying there just waiting to be
played, and it blows you away every time you try it. One of my favorite solos too, in
Disposable heroes :D

9.

ISIS - Panopticon
One of my more newfound love affairs. Noticed them for their awesome album, In the
Absence of Truth, but this one is slightly better. I choosed between this and one of Cult
of Lunas outstanding creations, but ISIS is closer to my hearth (dunno why). This is
quite often depressing, dark, ambient, proggy, sludge/doom/core music that really lifts
you up,, I always feel good after listening to ISIS, weird isn't it :D

10.

Jimi Hendrix - Are you experienced
How would the world look like without Jimi Hendrix? Scary thougt huh, it would definitely
be a boring place. I think everyone knows about this album. It was groundbreaking on so many levels that we probably won't see anything like that again (although I wasn't born >_<). Purple haze all in my eyes, Don't know if its day or night You got me blowin, blowin my mind Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time? Everyone else just got ownd. 11.

The Doors - Strange Days
Psychedelic proto-prog.. how neat isn't that? Jim Morrison is one of a kind, a mystery, an icon and was member in one of the greatest bands ever. There is nothing like The Doors, nothing compares to them, it's this mystic aura around everything they've created.. although there where a lot of albums to choose from, strange days summarize all that doors is really good.

12.

Led Zeppelin - IV
One of the most basic albums when you talk about rock. It doesn't need much of explanation in my opinion. The other albums are challenging but this one stands out to much for it be a really fair match. Heavy as led.

13.

Mastodon - Blood Mountain
This band amazes me every time. It's so brute, so raw, so energetic and so relieving. They really now how to wake your primal instincts, and they have the progressive part that you probably already understood that I love. Quite different albums, but for now I like the new album the most, but as always a damn tough question ;D

14.

Camel - Moonmadness
More British shit.. camel with their characteristic sound is something you can't skip when you're talking about music, they are so lovable. Not as pretentious as many proggrockbands but oh lord they can play. Moonmadness might be their best piece musically, realy high ambitions on this one, which everyone might not like.. but at least it's melting my heart. Camel is also one of those bands who have spawned the most awesome followers.. simply because you got to love them!

15.

Dream Theater - A change of season
As I've mentioned before, I have a really hard time choosing what album from the artist I should pick.. but this was insane. I'd like to pick A change of season, but since it's half a cover album that doesn't seem right, and the continuity of the concept album is amazing. So beautiful, so complete.. Beyond this life rocks your socks.

16.

Tool - Aenima
This band is quite something. When you listen to a tool-album it feels like you're transfered to another dimension. A dimension where everything is of rusty steel, the ground is covered in mud, with no sun to be seen and everywhere you feel despair. I wouldn't be surprised if Pyramid head sticks around there.. and although all this hopelessness you want to return, over and over again. A really groundbreaking band that takes their progressive roots and uses them to the max. I just random picked the record, I couldn't choose XD

17.

Nebula - Atomic Ritual
Instead of leaning to doom this stoner band leans to psychedelia.. which I prefer. The band includes sons from Kyuss (lol) and makes really trippy stoner rock. I choosed between Neb and the German band Colour Haze but after a hard fight Nebula was victorious. This album is so complete it contains everything I love with both the stoner, the psychedelic and a bit of real space rock elements.

18.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
One of the best guitarist there is, John McLaughlin and his gang have created this world influenced fusion masterpiece. Like Al di meola and Paco de lucia this is guitar music that blows everything else away, but this is more fun to listen to than the ones I just mentioned. Really beautiful compositions on this one, get!

19.

Mogwai - Young Team
Mogwai was my first connection with post-rock. Since then I've come to love Silver Mount, Godspeed and Sigur Ros.. but mogwai is still the ones I adore the most. Mr Beast was slightly disappointing but all their other albums have been so good it'll blow you away. Young team have the most epic and powerful tracks in my opinion. The build ups are quite genius and the atmosphere through this album is amazing, love at first sight :D

Oh and please stop call this space rock (space rock is played by bands like Hawkwind ffs)

20.

Radiohead - Kid A
This is an interesting album to listen to. You never really know what's gonna happen and it's full of surprises. It blends the rock part of radiohead and the experimental and electronic side of thom yorke and his fellas in an extremely good way. I love OKC also but I'm more fond of electronic sounscapes and ambient techno stuff than indierock. And this album is perfect,,

hmm well I guess everyone knows about it so I end my whimsy talking here.
